Studio Portraits

Handmade wet-plate portraits in the studio.

 

Tintypes: 4x5 — $200  |  5×7 — $250  |  8×10 — $350

Ambrotypes: add $50 per plate

• Sessions are slow, patient, and collaborative, made with natural light and chemistry. You’ll sit for one plate — with one optional retake if needed. Each image is unique, developed on-site and varnished after the session for posterity.  • One plate included; additional plates at 20% off if scheduled in advance. • Digital scans included upon request.

Mobile Sessions

I bring the studio to your location — home, park, café, or studio.

Ideal for families, couples, or anyone who prefers portraits at home or in a meaningful outdoor place.

• Travel fee: $150 added to studio rate • Additional plates 10% off • Setup and teardown take about an hour each. Multiple plates unfold at a rhythm of one every 15–20 minutes. • My traveling darkroom—a 6’ x 6’ ice-fishing tent—can be set up almost anywhere. • With access to power, I can offer studio-quality portraits (best indoors); without it, we work with whatever the day gives us—sun, shadow, wind, time.

Starting at $500/hr, 2-hour minimum

• ~3–4 plates per hour depending on flow • Designed for weddings, parties, celebrations, and intimate gatherings • Setup and teardown included, each take about an hour. Multiple plates unfold at a rhythm of one every 15–20 minutes. • My traveling darkroom—a 6’ x 6’ ice-fishing tent—can be set up almost anywhere, preferably under cover. • With access to power, I can offer studio-quality portraits (best indoors); without it, we work with whatever the day gives us—sun, shadow, wind, time.

What to Expect

Tintype portraits are made using the wet-plate collodion process: metal or glass coated in chemistry, exposed in-camera, then developed immediately.

• About 15 minutes per plate, generous and slow.

• Plates varnished after the session to last generations

• Local pickup free; shipping starts at $10

• One plate included; additional plates as noted above.
