Rubbings  &  Transformations

These works are borne from scans of tintypes. Sometimes I print an image onto sketch paper and transfer it to wood, canvas, or glass using acrylic, gesso, or other binders—I call these rubbings, because I rub them onto the surface and then rub away the paper, leaving the image behind; other times I print the image directly onto found papers, such as brown grocery bags or frame backing, and house it in a reclaimed frame. Part reproduction, part disappearance, each method alters what survives.
